About Olot and surrounding area:

The town had been destroyed by earthquakes in 1427 and 1428, so that today it has parallel streets round Plaça Major. Our first impression is grey and industrial. However, a walk through the city is worth wile. We discover some beautiful houses in Art nouveau style, for example Casa Gaietà or Casa Gassiot, small but nice shops like the confectionery Ferrer with its exquisite pralines, chocolates and cakes and some butcheries with their typical home made sausages.
On Saturdays local farmers offer their products on the Mercat del Rengle.
Olot is a city with a lot of galleries and exhibition spaces. The Museu Comarcal de la Garrotxa contains the most important collection of paintings, with works of the School of Olot. In the old orphanage with a monumental patio and a three storied gallery also take place special expositions.
